The prestigious publication Robert Parker Wine Advocate has just dedicated its new report to “Spain: The 2024 Vintage in the Canary Islands,” written by critic Luis Gutiérrez, one of the most influential names in the wine world internationally. In this extensive article, focused on the 2024 vintage in the archipelago, several references from Bodegas Viñátigo stand out with very high scores that place our wines among the most appreciated in the Canary Islands and in Spain.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate: a global benchmark
Founded in 1978 by Robert M. Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate has become one of the most influential wine guides in the world. It publishes thousands of reviews each year and uses the well-known 50 to 100-point scale, whose ratings have a direct impact on the international projection of wineries and the demand for their wines.
The new article on the Canary Islands emphasizes, among other ideas, that a large part of the wines tasted correspond to the 2024 vintage, marked by a very dry year and low yields, which translates into wines that are especially concentrated and full of personality.
Who is Luis Gutiérrez
The author of the report, Luis Gutiérrez, is the critic responsible for Robert Parker Wine Advocate in Spain, Jura and Portugal, including Madeira and the Azores. He is one of the most respected tasters for his deep knowledge of terroir-driven wines and artisanal projects.
His vision combines technical rigor, sensitivity to winegrowing landscapes and special attention to projects that focus on native varieties and respectful viticulture — precisely the axis around which Viñátigo’s work in Tenerife is structured.
Viñátigo in “Spain: The 2024 Vintage in the Canary Islands”
In this new report, Luis Gutiérrez once again focuses on Viñátigo’s wines and awards high scores to four of our single-plot bottlings, all of them coming from unique vineyards on volcanic soils and produced in very limited quantities:
Viñátigo Maipé de Taganana 2024 – 95+ points
Viñátigo Lomo de la Era 2024 – 94 points
Viñátigo Camino de la Peña 2024 – 93 points
Viñátigo Laderas de Teno 2022 – 93 points
These ratings place our wines in the “outstanding” and “extraordinary” range within the Parker scale, and strengthen Viñátigo’s role as one of the benchmark projects in the interpretation of Tenerife’s historic terroirs.
Maipé de Taganana 2024 – 95+ points
Listán Blanco on malpaís in Anaga
Maipé de Taganana comes from an almost heroic vineyard in the Anaga area, on volcanic soils very poor in organic matter. In his note, Gutiérrez describes a deeply mineral wine, with a marked imprint of wet volcanic stone, notes of white flowers, herbs and fresh fruit. He highlights its combination of ripeness and acidity, with a tense palate, great length and a saline finish that precisely reflects the Atlantic landscape from which it originates.

Lomo de la Era 2024 – 94 points
Old braided vines in La Orotava
Lomo de la Era is born from old Listán Blanco vines trained in the traditional cordón trenzado of La Orotava. The critic defines it as an austere and very serious white wine, with a fresh profile, aromas of white fruit, subtle herbal notes and a clean, vertical and precise palate. He underscores its balance between volume and acidity, as well as a dry, long and tasty finish that invites continued drinking.

Camino de la Peña 2024 – 93 points
Altitude and young volcanic soils in Icod de los Vinos
Camino de la Peña comes from a single terraced vineyard in Altos de Icod, on relatively young ash and volcanic rock soils. Gutiérrez speaks of a golden-colored wine, with notes of ripe yellow fruit, citrus and a very delicate herbal nuance. On the palate, he describes it as medium-bodied with a certain lightness, supported by vibrant acidity and a slight bitter twist on the finish that adds depth and gastronomic character.

Laderas de Teno 2022 – 93 points
The red expression of the northwestern slopes
Among the single-plot reds, Laderas de Teno 2022 also receives 93 points. Made from a blend of traditional varieties such as Bastardo, Vijariego Negro, Baboso Negro and Tintilla, from the Palmar Valley at around 700 meters of altitude, the wine presents a deep garnet color and a nose dominated by red and black fruits, wild flowers, herbs and a delicate smoky touch. On the palate, Gutiérrez highlights its medium structure, fine tannin and long, dry finish, with a sensation of freshness and plenty of volcanic personality.

A recognition of the landscape and the work in the vineyard
These new ratings from Robert Parker Wine Advocate are, for Viñátigo, something more than a number in an international guide. They are recognition of the patient work with Canary Island native varieties, the recovery of historic vineyards and the commitment to a viticulture that seeks to express the Atlantic volcanic landscape with the greatest possible fidelity.
The presence of our wines in such a detailed report on the 2024 vintage in the Canary Islands reinforces the idea that the archipelago is living a unique moment, in which small-scale, high-quality production projects the uniqueness of these territories to the world.
