On July 4th, the municipality of Labastida (Álava) hosted the 4th Meeting of Young Wine Talents, a national event that brought together more than 100 young winemakers from 12 autonomous communities. Among the participants was Jorge Méndez, winemaker at Bodegas Viñátigo, who participated in one of the program's roundtables, sharing our winery's experience in the field of wine tourism and sustainable development.
Organized by EDA Drinks & Wine Campus, in collaboration with the Basque Culinary Center, the Basque Government, and the Provincial Council of Álava, the event focused on the exchange of ideas among young wine professionals under the age of 40. During the day, three panel discussions focused on key issues for the future of the sector: marketing, wine tourism, and the role of the winemaker among the new generations.
Viñátigo and wine tourism: a view from the Canary Islands
Jorge Méndez participated in the roundtable discussion on "Wine Tourism and Sustainable Development," sharing the perspective of Bodegas Viñátigo and its context in the Canary Islands. During his presentation, he explained how the winery has been integrating wine tourism into its structure by creating a dedicated position within the team.
His contribution showed how an island winery has been able to adapt to the sector's new challenges through a sustainable, visitor-oriented strategy.

A space to share, learn and connect
In addition to the roundtable discussions, the event included a group tasting of wines made by the participants themselves. This format allowed young professionals to learn firsthand about the projects being developed in different wine-producing regions of Spain and to explore avenues for future collaboration.
Recognition of the new generation of Viñátigo
Jorge Méndez's participation in this forum reinforces Bodegas Viñátigo's commitment to training, sustainability, and the development of young talent in the wine industry. His presence in Labastida not only positions Viñátigo as a winery active in the main wine debates in Spain, but also reflects the desire to continue building a project with firm roots and a vision for the future.
Bodegas Viñátigo, located in La Guancha (Tenerife), continues to work on the recovery of native varieties, respect for the natural environment, and the connection between wine, land, and culture.
